If you're just looking for a straight up, comprehensive visual Buyer's Guide, see this excellent picture made by /u/richardus1-1. Purpose of this Post: The purpose of this post is to be a general introduction to HOTAS systems, the HOTAS market, and different things to consider when thinking of buying a HOTAS (or single stick) control peripheral for your PC. ![]() I try to keep this fairly up-to-date but as the HOTAS market has exploded in the last 3 years and my updates are based largely on shared user experience, expect some lag with adding new equipment. I have not touched on yokes, alternative control methods (like controllers), collectives, or head tracking. I've also focused, strictly, on HOTAS gear here (stick, throttle, pedals). This is also a very high level overview, so please keep that in mind. If you have more accurate information than what I’ve posted here, please reply and I’ll happily update what I’ve written. I do have experience with some of this gear, but a lot of it is information I’ve collected over the last 8 years or so of trolling various posts and places on the internet. Just a guy who enjoys flying WWI, WW2, modern, and space games that started with Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe with a Gravis Phoenix when he was a kid. I’m not a hard core flight simmer (though I used to be an IRL pilot). I’ve tried to be somewhat objective in here, but overall, this post represents my opinion. I thought the current “considering your first HOTAS guide” was lacking, so I decided to update a post I made over 6 years ago (mods add this to sticky? :D) Where Saitek went wrong with the X-55 Rhino by /u/Goloith HOTAS mount with PVC pipes by /u/irrelevant_queryĪnother HOTAS mount with PVC pipes by /u/vsTerminus Thrustmaster Warthog layout by /u/technosporranĪnother Ikea Markus HOTAS mount by /u/OneQuarterHuman X55 pp_rebindkeys XML file by /u/slugsnot Personaly, I have old Thrustmaster Joystick T Flight Hotas X, works well, in FG too.Fixing Toe Brakes on CH Pro Pedals for PTU 2.0 by /u/Goloith There are many possibilities, choice is on You. It is possible that manufacturer changed firmware or hardware and deadzones are gone. If You can, avoid cheap Saitek Proflight Yoke system, yoke has significant deadzones as design feature, Almost 2 years ago I tested 3 sets, but for that deadzones rejected deal. For Airbus jockeys exists Thrustmaster TCA Airbus sidestick with optional addons - throttle quadrant and speedbrake / flaps controller, again You can add rudder pedals (but not necessary, sidestick has twisting handle for rudder or nose wheel steering). For even better experience try CH yoke, or similar product from Honeycomb, but take into account another piece of the hardware - rudder pedals. If You want more, check Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS with thrust lever. In general, good joystick is Thrustmaster T.16000M, this one has twisting handle for rudder control. What planes do You want use ? Only Cessna and similar small GA aircraft ? Or larger airliners ? Or military fighters ?
